Meet the Chair's team of researchers

The Canada Research Chair in Human Rights and International Restorative Justice is pleased to present its team of researchers. They all have different backgrounds and profiles, but one thing they have in common: their passion for the law. They have embarked on a new stage in their legal careers by joining the Chair to further explore and contribute to the field of international restorative justice and human rights.

Rayene Bouzitoun, a Loran McCall McBain Fellow and student in the Common Law program at Université de Montréal, has been with the Chair since spring 2023 and took part in an international law project alongside Professor Miriam Cohen this summer. Her research interests revolve around the notion of international restorative justice and transitional justice processes.

Alessandra Spera, a second-year Master's student in International Organizations Law, joined the Chair this summer to further contribute to restorative justice, focusing in particular on cases of discrimination in Canada. With jurisprudential analysis and research on the role of experts before the Court as her two main lines of research, she hopes to specialize in the protection of human rights.

Philippe Brault holds a Bachelor of Law degree and joined the Chair in 2022. He has contributed to several projects, including the creation of a table of remedies for the province of Quebec in the context of discrimination. He also helped in the area of social networking as he was in charge of publications on the Chair's websites.

Theodore Sakr joined the Chair in January 2023. A student in International Studies, he helped Professor Miriam Cohen with a number of projects, including the Quebec remedies chart. In the summer of 2023, he focused on annotating cases of discrimination in Canada, while at the same time taking on the task of developing the Quebec remedies chart.
