International Symposium on Climate and Reparations and Grant from the Law Commission of Canada

On 10 and 11 April, the international symposium ‘Climate Change and Reparations’ was held at the Faculty of Law of the University of Montreal, which received a £10,000 grant from the Law Commission of Canada to support its organisation.

This conference, organized in collaboration with professors Miriam Cohen, Vladyslav Lanovoy (Laval University), Armando Rocha (Universidade Católica Portuguesa), and Maria Antônia Tigre (Sabin Centre for Climate Change Law, Columbia Law School), also benefits from the support of two doctoral students: Camille Martini (Laval University) and Éneas Xavier (University of Montreal).

Bringing together more than twenty experts from various institutions around the world, the conference's six thematic panels will provide a space for in-depth reflection on mechanisms for redressing climate change-related harms. With more than 350 registrations already, the event is generating considerable enthusiasm, reflecting the growing interest in these issues within legal, academic and institutional circles, both in Canada and internationally.

This event is part of a research project on climate change in international law, led by Professor Miriam Cohen and Professors Lanovoy, Rocha and Tigre, and supported by a partnership engagement grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

The Chair would like to thank the Law Commission of Canada for its essential support, as well as the entire organizing team and participants who made this thought-provoking and insightful event possible.
