Axis 2 - The interaction between new technologies, the protection of human rights and the empowerment of individuals and communities

In its second line of research, the Chair examines the role of new technologies in the protection of human rights, namely how technological innovations could be further incorporated into existing methods to empower individuals and communities. The Chair argues that a more active participation of individuals in the legal process would increase the effectiveness of the protection system and the respect of human rights. To this end, the Chair's team is creating a technological platform, the International Justice and Fundamental Rights Laboratory, to provide user-friendly access to Canadian and international human rights law and policy decisions.
