Nouwagnon Olivier Afogo

LL.D. candidate at the University of Montreal and Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University

Nouwagnon Olivier Afogo is a doctoral candidate in law (LLD) at the University of Montreal and Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University under the supervision of Professors Miriam Cohen and Kiara Néri. His thesis topic focuses on the contribution of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea to the protection of human rights in disputes relating to the enforcement of coastal State laws and regulations against foreign vessels.

Mr. Afogo holds a Master's degree in Law from the Université d'Abomey-Calavi and a Master's 2 in International Law from the Lyon Human Rights Institute, Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University and Université Grenoble Alpes. His research focuses on the law of the sea, climate law, regional and UN human rights protection systems, and international dispute settlement mechanisms. He is a lecturer at Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University, Université Grenoble Alpes and the Human Rights Institute (Catholic University of Lyon).

Mr. Afogo has served as legal counsel in several cases before the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, the International Court of Justice, and the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights.
