A Great Success for the Conference on the Role of International Law in Domestic Law!

On September 1, Professor Miriam Cohen, Professor Stephane Beaulac and Sarah-Michèle Vincent-Wright, doctoral student and scientific coordinator of the Canada Research Chair in Human Rights and International Reparative Justice hosted a conference on the role of international law in domestic law.

In addition to a detailed and critical examination of two landmark decisions in the country, rendered in 2020 in Québec inc. and Nevsun v. Araya, panelists from Brazil, Italy and here (Université de Montréal, McGill University, Université Laval and University of Ottawa) addressed this issue in the specialized fields of international humanitarian law, international criminal law, health law, administrative law and intellectual property (summary proposed by UdeM).

The conference provided an opportunity to take stock of these major advances in the field in a practical and pragmatic way, with regard to specific themes, but also from a theoretical and comparative perspective. In a globalized world where inter-legal issues are commonplace for today's modern jurists, the reflections from this work are of interest to a wide range of lawyers, whatever their field of practice, as well as to the law student community.

We are delighted to announce that around 50 people attended the event in person, and a further hundred or so listened to the discussions by videoconference.

The proceedings of this conference will be the subject of a collective publication, scheduled for winter 2024.
