Our new researchers

Silviana Cocan

Silviana Cocan holds a doctorate in law from the University of Bordeaux and Laval University. She is currently a lecturer, community internship coordinator and postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Law of the University of Montreal. She is a recipient of a postdoctoral fellowship under the Mitacs Elevate Program (2020-2022). Her research interests include public international law, international human rights law, international refugee and migration law and comparative law.

 

Rafael Lamera Giesta Cabral

Rafael Lamera Giesta Cabral is Professor of Legal History at the Federal University of the Semi-arid Region - UFERSA (Brazil). He holds a PhD in Law from the University of Brasília - UnB (Brazil). He is the author of "Undesirable Workers" (Editora 7Letras, Rio de Janeiro, 2022). Editor-in-Chief of the Revista Jurídica de UFERSA. Member of the Brazilian Institute of Legal History. His research interests include legal history, human rights and international labour law.

 

 

 

Renan Teles Campos de Carvalho

Renan Teles Campos de Carvalho is a PhD candidate in International Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of São Paulo (Brazil), under the direction of Professor Cláudia Perrone-Moisés, with a thesis in progress on the application of International Criminal Law in the South American transitions. Master in International Law from USP (Brazil), with a thesis on the recognition of vulnerable victims in the Inter-American Court "Justiça Internacional do reconhecimento e a jurisprudência da Corte Interamericana de Direitos Humanos" (Tirant Lo Blanch, 2020). State Attorney of São Paulo.

 

 

Tosin O. Adesina

Tosin O. Adesina is a professional of the West African Health Organisation (WAHO) and a PhD candidate in Women's Sexual and Reproductive Health Law at the Department of Rural Environmental Studies and Economic and Social Development, Nazi Boni University, Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. She is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Fellowship with a focus on women's sexual and reproductive health law, research, advocacy, community services and women's empowerment.

 

 

 

Margaux Outteryck

Margaux Outteryck, a second year student in the Master's programme in Public International Law at the University of Lyon III, contributed to the work of the Chair during a four-month internship. As part of her Master's degree, she plans to write her thesis on the regulation of arms sales through international law instruments. After graduation, she would like to join an international cooperation organisation such as Interpol.

 

 

Luísa Hoffmann

Luísa Hoffmann is a last year student in the Bachelor of Laws program at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), situated in Brazil. She is currently participating in a research exchange program at the Université de Montréal, for the fall term of 2022, under the supervision of Professor Miriam Cohen. During her exchange program, Luísa is having the opportunity to assist and participate in research projects developed by the Canada Research Chair in Human Rights and International Reparative Justice, especially in the axe 2 of the Chair. At her home university in Brazil, Luísa has experience doing research in matters of criminal law and public law.

Olouwafêmi Rodrigue Romain Oloudé

Olouwafêmi Rodrigue Romain Oloudé is a doctoral candidate in law (L.L.D) at the University of Montreal, under the supervision of Professor Miriam COHEN.

His research focuses on armed intervention for humanitarian purposes and, specifically, on the effectiveness of the "responsibility to protect" (R2P) within the United Nations (UN). The aim is to assess the transition from the statement of the R2P concept to its practical implementation by the UN.

 

 

Sarah-Michèle Vincent-Wright

Sarah-Michèle Vincent-Wright holds a law degree from the Université du Québec à Montréal (LL.B.) and a master's degree in law (LL.M.) from the University of Montreal, whose thesis was published by Éditions Thémis. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in law (LL.D.) at the University of Montréal, under the co-direction of professors Stéphane Beaulac and Isabelle Duplessis. Her research interests focus on the promotion and protection of women's rights in Canada and internationally. In addition to her studies, Sarah-Michèle Vincent-Wright is the scientific coordinator of the Canada Research Chair on International Justice and Human Rights and of the Observatory on National Security Measures. She is also a member of the Quebec Bar and has recently filed an intervention brief at the Supreme Court of Canada with Professors Stéphane Beaulac and Miriam Cohen in a case to be heard in 2022.

 

Philippe Brault

Philippe Brault is a third-year student in the Bachelor of Laws program at the Université de Montréal and joined the Canada Research Chair in Human Rights and International Reparative Justice in January 2022. At the chair, he researches the different prohibited grounds of discrimination recognized in both provincial and federal legislation in Canada. Philippe also contributes to the chair’s social media communications and occasionally helps the team with translation.
